Concert: In Memoriam Philipp Otto Naegele

“In Memoriam Philipp Otto Naegele,” a concert offered by the Department of Music in memory of Philipp Naegele, longtime professor of music at the College, with music by Bruckner, Dvorak, Mahler, Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, and Telemann, and brief recollections from family and friends. Performers will include Philipp Naegele’s former students and colleagues from Smith and Amherst Colleges, from the Pioneer Valley, and from Marlboro Music, in Marlboro Vermont, where he was a participant for sixty years. Free and open to the public.

On January 31, 2011 after a short illness, Philipp Otto Naegele passed away peacefully in his sleep. A brilliant violinist and violist, Philipp was a guiding light in the classical music world and a devoted and inspirational teacher and mentor. His contributions to Marlboro, passion for music and gift of himself to each and every one of us will never be forgotten.
